At least it lasted 32 months....

Well, I knew it would happen some day….. I was working on my department’s Halloween booth for our Trick Or Treat night, and I got paint on my pink rubber bracelet. I’ve worn this bracelet since February of 2007… what is that, 42 months? I think mine was the last one. Anyway, while picking paint out of the wording it broke. I don’t know why, but it really hit me. They let me wear it through my brain surgery….. Well, things change, don’t they?

Anyway, there’s a little update.

Here's the new digital mamography machine!

Because of Bobbi I was inspired to start a drive to get a digital mamography machine for our local hospital. I made a motion and it was passed that this goal become a main goal of the Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation. Our own Rotary of Cherokee was the first large donor with the proceeds from a golf tournament. WE also asked here that in leue of flowers donations be made in Bobbi’s name to that very fund. Two years later that goal has been fulfilled. We now have a digital mamography machine.

Please, for the love of Bobbi, encourgage all of your loved ones to have regular cancer screening. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s nearly 200,000 women per year. Of those 95% will be women over 40.

I have also started a scholarship fund to help Boy and Cub Scout volunteers (who could not otherwise afford to) pay for advanced training. This year the Bobbi Lambert Scholarship will assist four volunteers pay for training. You see- she’s still helping take care of the children.

Thank you to everyone who remembered Bobbi and helped make this possible.

An Update….

Hey Y’all. I had supper with Bobbi’s mom last week. What a blessing.

Then I went home and actually watched some of the videos from the memorial service. I’d started downloading them from the camcorder a few months ago, but I hadn’t actually watched them till now. It was wonderful to see, mostly. It was also bittersweet- seeing Paul talk about wishing he had been able to know Bobbi better and now me wishing I had known Paul better…..

I think I’ve decided to live like there is now world after this one. Thinking about a world to come might make you feel like you are off the hook for your time in this one. Why worry about the hole in the ozone layer or global warming, right? I can see how that point of view might have some appeal, but I’m accountable for this life- what I do with my time here.

Anyway- tonight is cub scouts, and Thursday is Boy Scouts. A lot of very exciting things are happening with the scout training thing I’m working with (news at 11). I’m still working on the “Hugh Blog”. I’m sure I’ll have more than enough to say there to offend everybody (I hope).

I’ll keep you posted.
