The Weekend

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Gosh- that guy's ugly! I'm like a new diet- just look at this picture and you won't be able to eat!

I hope this finds you all well. `Yesterday I had a traditional “Honor Dinner” for Bobbi. You have a fine meal and think about the “departed”. I had the finest meal I could come up with- all Bobbi’s favorites- Stone Crab claws, Alaskan King Crab, Prawns (big shrimp), grass-fed prime beef (fillet Mignon), spring salad mix, sweet potatoes, everything but Hershey’s Kisses (that’s really Bobbi’s favorite!). Bobbi’s brother Greg and his wife came over and cousin Becky came with her husband Dr. Richard Olsen (who helped take care of Bobbi) and my God mother Aunt Lib. I fixed Bobbi a plate and later took it out to a special place and left the food there. It was wonderful, Bobbi would have loved it. Maybe she did.

Susan brought me an incredible gift- me! She painted a picture of me the day I got home from my brain surgery and then painted me from the photo. I think she really caught me as I was that day- it’s terrifying! That huge angry red scar sure scared me (and all the small children), and now it’s all come back to me. It makes me want to get a hat for the painting like I did for my head! LOL. That’s one big Stetson. I’m really proud of it- thank you Susan! I’m relieved that the scar is now mostly healed….mostly.

I had a great weekend. I pretty much finished the garden! It just needs weeding. I bought a cabinet organizing shelf set pot my pots and pans. I think Bobbi would be pleased.

It'll look just like this when I finish installing it....

All of this reminds me of how lucky I am. I dodged the “cancer bullet”, Bobbi and I had twenty five wonderful years, I have a family I love (and who loves me) and I work with the best team of people in the world- I am the richest man I know. FYI- I got down to 200 pounds this week!

I had a great week at work. It wasn’t too tiring and I was made to feel very welcome. We’re in our new building! It’s beautiful! We all finally have room for all of us. Y’all come by for a tour!

Thanks for checking in. I’ll keep you posted.

Back…

Steve and Susan are thrilled!

Okay, I’m back. Back home, back to work, back……. Yesterday I went back to work two weeks early. It was a long day, but so good to get back. I’ve been away too long and there’s so much work to do!

Last night we (Dave, Donna and I) drove to Greenville, SC to watch my nephew Sam graduate from high school. It was great! We’re so proud of the “little” guy (he’s 6′ 4″). Then we went to a celebratory dinner at a fine restaurant. Oh gosh- the celebration went on till after 11pm, then we had to drive home (got home at 2am). Congratulations Sam! Aunt Bobbi would be proud. Here he is getting his diploma.

It’s still a pretty emotional week. I went to my cousin Janice’s retirement party yesterday. All we talked about was loved ones who have gone on. That is still a hard conversation for me to have, but with time it may get easier. I’ll post a week’s worth of photos in a little while. Now I need coffee!!! I’ll keep you posted.

Six Weeks….

We found a way to keep Kira just where we can find her!

Nonni, Kim and Kiwi, Greg and Susan

Well, today’s the day! I got back to work two weeks early. Six weeks ago I was unconscious. I had a portable MRI machine strapped to my head and robotic probes inside freezing and shaving Ygor….. Did all that happen or was it a wierd dream? How can I feel so good now after all that? I am so very blessed.

I’m in Barnardsville. I’ve taken Cori home. She’s been beside me for six weeks- my nurse, chauffeur, and friend. She’s changed my bandages, washed me, cooked for me and pretty much caterred to all my needs. How nice is that? She’s been an angel. I’ve been pretty lucky in the angel department, don’t you think?

We all spent Monday in Sevierville, TN with brother Dave and his wife Donna and Brother Sam. We looked at model homes I’m considering, and then all had a lovely meal. We finished up at BASS PRO! They had to drag me out of the fly fishing section!

I’ve really been missing Bobbi. Sunday we had a Livengood day that was truly delightful. Sarah and the kids came up from Charlotte. That sort of got me going. Sarah looks hauntingly like her older sister. Still, we had a delightful time together. All the kids were wonderful.

I miss you, Bobbi Lynn. Thank you for being my angel all these long years.

I gotta go to work! I’ll keep you posted.
